‘Afrodisia’ is the second book (after ‘Black Pow-Wow’) by Beat poet Ted Joans. Joans describes himself as a “Jazz poet, thus a revolutionary poet”, a painter and a trumpet player. He has been most strongly influenced by surrealism, Langston Hughes, and jazz.
“These poems like jazz music and jazz dance come erotically into the Black Power bag. If you can dig it, then dig it, and if not…ass yo’ mammy!” — Ted Joans
