Publication to accompany the exhibition of the same name from 15 July to 13 September 1992 at Kunstverein München (Munich). With texts by Helmut Draxler (foreword), Diedrich Diederichsen (“Virtueller Maoism: Das Wissen von 1984” [Virtual Maoism: Knowledge of 1984]) and Rainald Goetz (“Kartoffelmesser” [Potato Knife]) in German.
“Malen ist Wahlen [Painting is Elections] refers to another exhibition, ‘Wahrheit ist Arbeit [Truth is Work] held at the Folkwang Museum Essen in spring 1984 under Zdenek Felix. The title and the catalogue of this exhibition are based on the previous one. The exhibition itself is neither a reconstruction nor a stringent concept of correlation. Various groups of works by the three participating artists stake out the timeframe in their own way respectively.” (Helmut Draxler, foreword)
Albert Oehlen: page 13-30, works on loan from the Martin Kippenberger Collections from the period 1983-1988 (reworked photographs, collages, oil paintings on canvas).
