Higgins, Dick. Ode to London.
£ 70,  …

‘Ode to London’ is a semantic exercise silk-screened in lavender on a mylar sheet in which words are redefined in terms of other unrelated words to form a statement such that every key word contains the same meaning.

This print is Fluxus artist Dick Higgins’ contribution to the SMS portfolio’s third volume. SMS (Shit Must Stop) was a subscription based bi-monthly art journal maintained by artist William Copley, representing some of the most significant artists of the 20th century. The portfolio, released in 1968, gathered carefully constructed “original reproduction” limited edition multiples by both world famous and obscure artists in an affordable mail-order subscription of six volumes - bypassing the museum and gallery institution.
