‘Michael’ is Martin Kippenberger’s (MK 1) homage to his friend and former assistant Michael Krebber (MK 2), to his gestures and his appreciation of Marcel Broodthaers. The illustrations for the concertina-folded brochure had to be printed twice because the printer had reproduced the illustrations in black and white instead of in colour. — Uwe Koch (ed.), Annotated Catalogue Raisonné of the Books by Martin Kippenberger 1977–1997, pp.181, Cologne, 2002. (No.69).
The remaining illustrations for ‘Michael’ were given a new cover and published as ‘Michi’. Since the shorter form of the name no longer filled the width of the cover, Kippenberger created a frame around the title in a further reference to Broodthaers.
