Artist’ postcard entitled ‘Alkoholfolter’ (The Torture of Alcohol) by Martin Kippenberger part of the serie Kölner Künstler Photographieren (Cologne artists take pictures). The card is numbered 198 in the catalogue raisonné ‘Bei Nichtgefallen Gefühle zurück. Die gesamten Karten 1989-1997’, published in 2000 by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther Koenig, Cologne.

In the painting ‘Alkoholfolter (aus dem 15-teiligen werk vom einfachsten nach Hause)’ (The Torture of Alcohol [From the Fifteen-Part Series From the Simplest to Home]), 1981–82, he appears arrested, with the plastic rings of a six pack beer, as pretend handcuffs.

Kippenberger also created a multiple with the same name in 1989, consisting of a Schlösser Alt-beer can with initials signed on adhesive plaster (in an edition of 79 and published by Galerie Gisela Capitain, Cologne).
