Art & Project Bulletin No.68. Douglas Huebler.

Huebler, Douglas.

£110

This bulletin by Douglas Huebler, number 68 in the series, contains the work ‘Variable Piece 106’. This copy is adressed to Eric Ebbinge, Director of the Teylers Museum.

“Eighteen mannequins were photographed through windows of a number of clothing stores on Regent Street, London: immediately after each photograph was made the artist turned and photographed the first person of the same sex as the mannequin just photographed thereby juxtaposing a model of reality with a ‘real life’ counterpart.

A contact proof print and twelve photographs (selected to represent six of the possible juxtaposition) join altogether with this statement to constitute the form of this piece.”
April, 1973 / Douglas Huebler

Published between 1968 and 1989, Adriaan van Ravesteijn and Geert van Beijeren, the founders of Art & Project in Amsterdam, produced 156 individual bulletins by Bas Jan Ader, John Baldessari, Robert Barry, Marcel Broodthaers, Stanley Brouwn, Daniel Buren, Hanne Darboven, Jan Dibbets, Hamish Fulton, Gilbert & George, Douglas Huebler, Joseph Kosuth, William Leavitt, Sol LeWitt, Richard Long, Charlotte Posenenske, Robert Ryman, Lawrence Weiner, Ian Wilson, to name a few.

Each bulletin was typically composed of four 29.5 x 21 cm. pages with a consistent cover design. The inside of the bulletin, however, was open to each artists’ interpretation. They became projects produced specifically for the medium according to the whims of their creator. The bulletins were not simply exhibition announcements or recompilations of previous works; instead they emerged as stand alone pieces of original art issued in a continuous numbered series for twenty one years.

Amsterdam: Art & Project, 1973. (29.4 × 20.8 cm). Texts in English. Single sheet folded twice and printed in b/w. Condition: Fine. Item ID: 11638.
